Oz Basketball League Goes VR with HTC VIVE and Accedo
Accedo has announced it is partnering with HTC VIVE, a leader in room-scale Virtual Reality (VR), to educate the video industry and accelerate VR innovation. The companies are also working with the Australian National Basketball League (NBL) to create exciting new user experiences for sporting events in VR.
VIVE is a virtual reality platform developed by HTC and Valve for total immersion in virtual worlds. It is designed from the ground up for room-scale VR and true-to-life interactions.
By leveraging the immersiveness of video content and virtual reality technology, Accedo and HTC VIVE can create future video experiences that will change viewers’ perception of today’s video entertainment and dramatically enhance user experience. Accedo and HTC will produce a series of joint seminars and participate in various industry speaking engagements, as well as work together with key media accounts such as the Australian NBL to implement new VR services and technologies.
“The video experience will undoubtedly change as VR technology matures and services become more mainstream. Accedo brings a strong perspective, leadership and experience in the video industry, and we believe this partnership can stimulate innovation and cross-collaboration that will benefit content owners such as the NBL, and ultimately video consumers,” said Rikard Steiber, President of HTC Viveport.
The NBL, which includes eight teams from around the country, attracts more than 750,000 spectators each season, as well as prime-time television audiences for games broadcast nationally.
“VR offers an exciting opportunity to create new content and experiences for sports fans around the country, and we look forward to collaborating with Accedo and HTC VIVE, two leading experts in the field,” said Jeremy Loeliger, CEO of the Australian National Basketball League.
“HTC VIVE is recognized as a leader within Virtual Reality and we are thrilled to be working together with them to jointly educate and help the video industry embrace the game-changing opportunities offered by this exciting new technology,” said Fredrik Andersson, SVP Business Development at Accedo. “Together with our clients around the world, including the Australia National Basketball League, we can create bold and dynamic experiences that will shape the future of virtual reality.”
Accedo will be featuring their VR solutions at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, at Accedo booth SU9205CM. The next generation VR user experience will also be discussed during a panel on April 26 at 10:00 am.
