New Head for UTS Animal Logic Academy
The University of Technology (UTS) has announced Ian Thomson as new Head of UTS Animal Logic Academy (UTS ALA) as it embarks on its next inspiring chapter as a world leading animation and visualisation school.
Mr Thompson comes to the role with over 30 years of industry experience, most recently with Macleay College where he led and designed courses for the Advertising and Digital Media Faculty.
Ian commenced his extensive career as a Visual Effects Designer where he had the opportunity to work on multiple projects with Zareh Nalbandian, CEO of Animal Logic.
“Not only does Ian bring an incredible range of experience to the Academy but also an emphatic commitment to the development of talent in our industry,” said Nalbandian. “As Head of UTS ALA, I am confident that Ian will champion creativity and innovation, and make sure that students are ready to take up the fantastic job opportunities that await in the fields of animation and visualisation.”
“With Australia continuing to develop an international reputation for world class animation and visual effects through production companies like Animal Logic, it’s an exciting time and place to be pushing the boundaries of what animation and visualisation can achieve in creating new worlds, experiences, research, careers and opportunities,” said Ian Thomson.
The UTS ALA’s Master of Animation and Visualisation (MAV) program is offered in partnership with production studio Animal Logic through the UTS ALA. It is the first of its kind in Australia, offering students the opportunity to work collaboratively with fellow students, industry partners and mentors in a custom-built studio where real-world production pipelines are emulated.
