Media Prima Announces Changes – Senior Management and Directors

Media Prima Berhad, Malaysia, recently announced that Dato’ Sri Amrin Awaluddin would end his tenure as Group Managing Director of Media Prima effective as of the 1st of August, 2017. Dato’ Sri Amrin remains on the Board of Media Prima and re-designated as Executive Director to ensure a smooth leadership transition for the Group.

The Group also announced Encik Mohamad Ariff Ibrahim would step down from his position as Group Chief Financial Officer, again effective from August 2017, and will remain with Media Prima as Director at the Group Managing Director’s Office until the 31st of December 2017 to assist the senior management team in executing the Group’s Odyssey 2.0 business transformation efforts.

Dato’ Sri Amrin and Encik Mohamad Ariff had earlier informed the Media Prima Board of Directors of their intentions to step down from their current posts to pursue new challenges outside the Group. It was their personal decisions and the Board had accepted their requests upon consideration of their contributions to Media Prima. Dato’ Sri Amrin and Encik Mohamad Ariff had served the Group cumulatively for 16 and 19 years respectively. The Board extends its highest appreciation for their leadership and wishes to thank them for their services.

Dato’ Sri Amrin was appointed as the Group Managing Director in 2009. He had served in several key positions including as Chief Financial Officer of Sistem Televisyen Malaysia Berhad (STMB) in 2001, Group Chief Financial Officer of Media Prima Berhad in 2003, Chief Executive Officer of Natseven TV Sdn Bhd in 2006 and Chief Executive Officer of STMB in January 2008.

Encik Mohamad Ariff, meanwhile, had been an integral member of Media Prima’s Senior Management team since he rejoined NSTP in 2009. His leadership, insights and guidance had been instrumental in major corporate exercises undertaken by the Group including the restructuring and integration of NSTP and Big Tree Outdoor, the acquisition of REV Asia Holdings Sdn Bhd, the formation of CJ WOW SHOP as well as the delisting of NSTP.

Media Prima had earlier in May shared with the financial community a key transformation roadmap aimed at reinventing Media Prima into a digital first commerce company. The roadmap will benefit the Group given the changes in media consumption amongst consumers and challenges faced by media industry as a whole.

Given the resignations and as part of Media Prima’s succession planning, the Group announced the appointment of Datuk Kamal Khalid, Group Chief Operating Officer (and Group Managing Director-Designate), Media Prima Berhad, and Puan Farnida Ngah, Group Chief Financial Officer – Designate, Media Prima Berhad.

The Board is pleased that Datuk Kamal had accepted the position of Group Chief Operating Officer (and Group Managing Director-Designate). A seamless transition is expected, given Datuk Kamal’s deep knowledge of the media industry. Puan Farnida’s appointment as the Group Chief Financial Officer-Designate will provide continuity to the key financial strategies and cost optimisation initiatives already in place.

Media Prima Berhad has also announced the resignation of Datuk Seri FD Iskandar as Independent Non-Executive Group Chairman of Media Prima effective as of the 31st of July, 2017, leaving the Group that he has served illustriously in various capacities since 2009. The announcement follows Iskandar’s decision to step down to focus on other business obligations.

In accepting Datuk Seri FD Iskandar’s request for resignation, the Board of Directors of Media Prima expressed its appreciation and gratitude for his leadership, dedication and contributions to the Group, where he also served as Chairman of the Group’s Risk Management and Nomination and Remuneration committees. During his tenure with the Group, he also sat on the Board of the New Straits Times Press Malaysia Berhad from 2009 to 2015.

During his time on the Board of NSTP, Datuk Seri FD Iskandar played a key advisory role to Management on the company’s business turnaround initiatives which led to significant performance improvements. At Media Prima, Datuk Seri FD Iskandar was instrumental in guiding the Group’s transformation efforts during which new ventures were undertaken to generate new sources of revenue including the launch of Media Prima’s home shopping business and other key digital initiatives. He also played a pivotal role in the acquisition of REV Asia Holdings Sdn Bhd and Copyright Laureate Sdn Bhd (now Kool FM Radio Sdn Bhd).
