ACMA Consults on Implementing Spectrum Pricing Review
The Australian Communications and Media Authority has announced a consultation on the implementation of the Australian Federal Government’s Spectrum Pricing Review.
In August 2015, the Government asked for a review of spectrum pricing to ensure consistent and transparent arrangements to support the efficient use of spectrum and secondary markets. Recommendations of the review were designed to produce clear pricing principles which would allow Government decisions to be transparent, predictable and accountable. The review felt that, as a general rule, this objective is more likely achieved if spectrum allocations are made by spectrum users through market mechanisms, rather than administrative allocations by Government.
The consultation focuses on the implementation of three of the 11 recommendations of the Spectrum Pricing Review. ACMA is offering the opportunity to comment on the proposed spectrum pricing guidelines and focus areas for its work program.
The consultation period closes 15 April, 2020.
