ABC Looking for Online Creatives to Test at Pitch-o-rama
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation searching for Australia’s next big online series with submissions now open for the Pitch-o-rama competition at the annual Screen Makers Conference.
The high-pressure competition gives screen makers from across the country the chance to pitch their short-form scripted or factual concept directly to ABC creative executives and other industry experts at the conference in Adelaide from 26-27 July.
Shortlisted entrants will have three minutes each to spruik their short-form series concept in front of a live audience. The winning pitch will receive $10,000 from the ABC and Media Resource Centre, Adelaide’s screen culture hub, to help develop their concept. The winner will also receive assistance from an ABC TV commissioning team in progressing their idea for digital audiences.
Michael Carrington, Acting ABC Director of Entertainment & Specialist, said: “The ABC is delighted to support Pitch-o-rama again as part of our commitment to supporting innovative and emerging Australian storytellers. Live pitching puts the strength and creativity of concepts to an immediate pressure-cooker test. We are proud to give future Australian screen makers and creatives the opportunity to develop their distinctive stories for digital audiences. ”
Gail Kovatseff, director of the Media Resource Centre, said: “We’re thrilled to have Pitch-o-rama returning to the Screen Makers Conference again this year. Last year’s Pitch-o-rama debut was a great success. It provided a platform for up-and-coming screen makers to pitch their projects and the winners are now receiving assistance to help progress their concepts.”
Pitch-o-rama was launched at the Screen Makers Conference in 2018, with Ana Carbajo winning the inaugural $10,000 prize to support the development of her online comedy series Inner Lucy.
Submissions close on 1 July 2019.
