Telecom Fiji Partners with Huawei – Deploys Fibre in South Pacific Islands
Telecom Fiji and Huawei have jointly announced the successful deployment of its 10G Passive Optical all fibre network – the ultra-fast fibre broadband and first of its kind in the Islands of the South Pacific region. The network will provide Giga-band network access service for Fijian households as well as enterprises.
This 10G Passive Optic Network (10GPON) technology differentiates itself from traditional copper wire technology by providing a maximum of 10Gbps download speed. The utilisation of this Optical Distribution Network enables the provision of a 1Gbps/xGbps access rate with faster speed, higher reliability and lower latency. This covers all scenarios including: home broadband and enterprise customers.
“By adopting Huawei’s super 10G fibre broadband, the competitiveness of our fixed broadband in Fiji is significantly enhanced. The faster and more reliable Giga-band connections makes it possible for our customers to enjoy 4K/8K videos, smart home services and high-speed enterprise interconnections. We are confident this will enable us to maintain our technological leadership in the South Pacific island markets,” said Joseph Naua, General Manager of Sales and Marketing, Telecom Fiji.
Eago Li, Sales Director of Huawei Fiji said, “It is our honour to support TFL to launch the first 10GPON as we are celebrating our 15th Partnership Anniversary. With the help of the 10GPON access network, TFL can soon provide rich digital services including multi-channel 4K/8K/VR, smart home and so on to Fijian households and SMEs. In future, we will continue to innovate in order to bring the latest, the best, and the most cost-effective solutions to support business success for our customers.”
This joint announcement was made at the Pacific Islands Telecommunication Association (PITA) 23rd AGM and Annual Telecommunications Conference.
