Fox Asia Nabs White Dragon (Strangers) from All3media

Conspiracy thriller White Dragon (Strangers), which filmed in Hong Kong and the UK, has been acquired by Fox Asia in a deal with distributor all3media international that will see the drama make its Asian premier this autumn through the channel’s Pan Asia linear feed and Fox Plus.

Further deals concluded by all3media international will see White Dragon (Strangers) airing in New Zealand (Sky Network) and Eire (Virgin Media Television), and the series is currently airing in Australia on BBC First following its acquisition by BBC Studios. The drama has also been acquired in home entertainment deals with Dazzler Media (UK and Eire) and RLJ Entertainment (Australia and New Zealand). White Dragon (Strangers) will make its official international debut at MIPCOM this month.

Starring John Simm (Life on Mars, Collateral) and Anthony Wong (Still Human, Infernal Affairs), White Dragon (Strangers) is a co-production between ITV in the UK and Amazon Prime in the USA. The critically acclaimed drama made its primetime debut on ITV in the UK last month, winning its slot and exceeding the channel’s slot average by 20 percent. It will be available on Amazon Prime in the USA and Caribbean.

Sabrina Duguet, EVP, APAC at all3media international, said, “We’re delighted to bring this fantastic drama – which is filmed in Hong Kong and features a stellar British and Asian cast and crew – to the Asia region with Fox. The recent UK ratings success is proving a strong driver to demand in the international market and we’re looking forward to seeing this thrilling mystery intriguing more viewers around the world.”

Keertan Adyanthaya, Executive Vice President of Content and Communications for FOX Networks Group Asia, said, “We embrace every opportunity to find, create and share boldly dramatic content with our entertainment-hungry viewers in Asia. White Dragon (Strangers) is a fantastic example of the meteoric rise of East-meets-West storytelling, and we will continue to work with best-in-market players like all3media international to bring audiences the most diverse and compelling stories.”

Created and written by screenwriting newcomers Mark Denton and Jonny Stockwood, White Dragon (Strangers) was commissioned by ITV’s Head of Drama, Polly Hill, from Two Brothers Pictures, the drama indie established by award-winning writers and producers Harry Williams and Jack Williams (Liar, The Missing, Fleabag).

Starring alongside John Simm and Anthony Wong are Tom Wu, Emilia Fox, Tim McInnerny, Anthony Hayes, Raquel Cassidy, Katie Leung and Dervla Kirwan.

Simm takes the role of Professor Jonah Mulray who receives the devastating news that his wife, Megan (Kirwan), has died in a car accident on the beautiful mountain roads overlooking Hong Kong. Although the area is a notorious accident black-spot, Jonah feels he must unravel the circumstances of her death following an emotional voicemail left by his wife just seconds before she died.  Heartbroken Jonah is interviewed by Hong Kong detectives Daniel Tsang, Felix Chang and Wilfred Chow about Megan’s death, but frustratingly they appear to be going through the motions. Is there more to the police investigation than the officers are revealing?

White Dragon (Strangers) is directed by Paul Andrew Williams (Broadchurch, The Eichmann Show, Murdered by My Boyfriend) who also executive produces the eight-part series alongside Jack Williams and Harry Williams.  Matthew Bird (Decline and Fall, The Musketeers, Fortitude) is producer. Marston Bloom (Marcella, New Tricks, Vera), Adam Gyngell and Fred Armesto have written episodes four, five and six respectively.
