Coastalwatch Live to Any Device

Ooyala today announced that Coastalwatch, Australia’s largest and most comprehensive surf camera and coastal resource website, is using Ooyala’s video platform to support its online video offering and deliver the insights and power to better target videos and advertising. This announcement coincides with the launch of Coastalwatch Plus, the new full featured extension of Coastalwatch.

“Coastalwatch Plus provides a premium service to surfers so they can maximise their surfing – online and on the beach. The power Ooyala brings with video is the perfect fit to ensure our video content and galleries are of the highest quality” said Martin Pascoe, Digital Marketing Manager at Coastalwatch.

Ooyala simplifies the entire process of bringing video online – from transcoding to managing, publishing, analysing, and increasing revenues from online video assets. Utilising Ooyala’s video platform will enable Coastalwatch to monetise its video content like video on demand, which includes the Coastalwatch video galleries and videos embedded in articles.

Coastalwatch has 120 beach cameras and another 20 in the mountains. The full suite of cameras has been converted to 100% high quality HD and high flash models. All of the top 50 traffic serving cameras are now plugged into the Ooyala system.

A key part of Coastalwatch’s offering is multiple devices. There is a large user base that uses Coastalwatch’s services through all kinds of smartphones, tablets and portable devices so a wide variety of player capability is needed. “The Ooyala team understood what our needs were as the customer,” noted Holt. “They looked at our unique problems then went back to their developer team to create the customised solution that we needed, right down to using adaptive bit rates for the wide range of internet speeds in Australia so the player can be adapted on the fly, as the stream changes.”
