Digital Tech Event Hybrid World Adelaide Returns
Interactive tech and digital entertainment event Hybrid World Adelaide (HWA) returns in late July with a new home in the CBD. Now in its second year, the event will again feature the HWA LAB, offering tech start-ups and entrepreneurs a chance to access $85,000 worth of investment funds from the South Australian Government.
The HWA LAB gives local and international start-ups and established companies the opportunity to develop their projects with the help of world-class digital and technology experts. Over two days, the interactive boot-camp style lab will bring together applicants and mentors to share ideas and bring them to reality. The $85,000 in South Australian Government grants are available to participants who make it to the final round of intense shortlisting.
Six companies were selected to split the investment grants last year. The 2017 winner, RHS, applied their funds to advance research efforts in the fight against cancer.
HWA Creative Director Robert Tercek will be returning to mentor the participants along with a number of local and international high profile entrepreneurs and industry experts.
“The HWA LAB was a huge success last year, with overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants and mentors alike. I am thrilled to see the return of an initiative that invests in the development of industry and promotes a future facing economy,” Robert Tercek said.
Premier and Minister for the Arts, Jay Weatherill said, “It’s fantastic to see Hybrid World Adelaide returning for 2018. This new addition to the festival calendar proved popular with entrepreneurs, investors and the tech-minded public. Jobs are our number one priority and events like Hybrid World Adelaide showcase where the jobs of the future will be and provide opportunities for ideas to become reality via the Development LAB.”
TechinSA Chief Executive Joe Thorp said access to high-profile mentors and the intensive learning offered through the HWA LAB is invaluable.
“The HWA Development LAB is a unique opportunity to test and refine your ideas with international experts complimenting the Government’s TechInSA team who will also be providing follow-up advice and access to commercialisation funding,” Joe Thorp said.
The HWA LAB will be a key event within the HWA program and will strengthen South Australia’s reputation as a creative and innovative state. The festival will also feature an industry conference featuring global thought leaders, as well as a vast public program for all ages showcasing interactive entertainment, robotics, workshops and futuristic digital experiences.
Companies at pre-funding or seed-funded stage are encouraged to apply to be a part of the HWA LAB, provided their application includes a visionary technology-based idea. This might include bio-tech, genomics, robotics, artificial intelligence, data analytics, block-chain, social media or the like. Applicants will be evaluated against Hybrid World Adelaide values such as originality, viability, diversity, providing solutions, creating future insights plus the strength of management and stage of funding.
