SA Start-Up Set to Shake Up Access to Virtual Reality
A South Australian start-up has developed a unique internet platform which allows anyone from a home owner to a global corporation make quick and affordable virtual tours.
Using the online platform developed by Augment Space, anyone can upload 360°photos and easily create interactive virtual tours and walkthroughs.
The tools available through the platform are compatible with 360° cameras – with a plan to include all mobile devices in the future – and the finished tours can be viewed anywhere, on a mobile phone, a tablet or on a desktop.
The co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Augment Space, Akash Nigam, said the platform is ideal for anyone wanting to showcase a property or project.
“The platform can be used by anyone, and for multiple purposes such as tracking progress during a home renovation, promoting a home for sale, routine rental inspections or showcasing a major construction project,” he said.
“Your virtual tour can be shared on social media or embedded on a website, and you can invite other users – from anywhere in the world – to join or view your project.
“And using our platform to create your virtual tour is affordable – from as little as $10 a month, plus GST.”
Michael McDonald, General Manager, Raine and Horne SA said that Augment Space has opened up the market by developing a user friendly and cost effective virtual tour system.
“Whilst virtual tours have been around for a while now, they are usually prohibitively expensive and technically difficult to do yourself. This new platform is special because above all it is adaptive to more common technologies such as a phone or tablet which will allow us to offer our customers value for money virtual tours on properties. We already have six Raine and Horne offices signed up to use it.”
Mr Nigam said the platform is completely cloud-based, and users don’t need to download an app to their device.
“We ensure all of our users have access to the latest platform updates and upgrades,” he said.
“The platform also allows users who share their virtual tour on social media or a website to track the number of views and interactions, which can deliver an insight into the level of interest in your project. And you can easily add a floor plan to your video, delivering a significant advantage for real estate agents or private home sellers wanting to showcase a property especially those in more rural locations.”
Mr Nigam has credited moving his company into Adelaide’s St Paul’s Creative Centre as being a key reason behind the successful development of the online platform. “St Paul’s inspires creativity, and also provides a strong support network for entrepreneurs and start-ups,” he said.
